Lauretta Vinciarelli (1943–2011) was an artist, architect, and professor of architecture.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://archrecord.construction.com/news/2011/12/In-Remembrance.asp )〕 Born in Italy (near Fiume) near the Croatian border, she grew up in Rome where her father played the organ at the Vatican. Vinciarelli studied architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome, and moved to the United States in 1968 where she would teach architectural design at Pratt Institute, the University of Chicago, Rice University, Columbia University, and City College of New York. Vinciarelli's architectural drawing reflects time spent in the American Southwest with Minimalist artist Donald Judd. From the early 1980s until the end of her life, Vinciarelli created evanescent watercolor paintings, which architectural critic K. Michael Hays has described in "Not Architecture But Evidence That It Exists."
